Obituary for Mansueto Vergata

Mansueto Vergata
Mansueto Vergata
February 18, 1931 – February 14, 2017

It is with sadness that the family of Manuseto Vergata announce his sudden passing on February 14, 2017 in Osoyoos, BC. He was predeceased by his parents, Martino and Teresa Vergata, his wife Giuseppina, son Carmelo and ten brothers and sisters. Mansueto leaves to mourn his children, Martino (Donna), Joe (Angie), Tony (Maria), grandchildren Martina, Alyssa, Bianca, Tiana, Kiana, and Drew., his brothers Frank (Marlene), Rafaelle (Susan), sisters Maria (Antonio), Assunta (Nello), sister-in-law Elenora (Benito) sister-in-law Caterina (Rosario) in Italy, cousins, nephews and nieces.

Manuseto was born in Settingiano (CZ) Italy on Feb. 18, 1931. He was the third of fifteen children born to Martino and Teresa Vergata. With the retirement of his father, Manuseto assumed the family business at a very young age. It was through the business that he met his wife Giuseppina in Amato, Italy. In 1956 they were married and resided in Amato. In 1957 the family grew with the birth of their first child Martino and a second son in 1959, Giuseppe (Joe). A third son was born in 1962, but tragically passed away a week after birth. In September of 1962, Manuseto immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada to join his brother Benito. In June of 1963, Mansueto’s wife and two sons joined him in Winnipeg. His entrepreneur nature led him to own and operate a dry cleaning business, tailor shop, restaurant and sports bars. In 1970 a fourth son was born, Antonio (Tony). In 1998, Manuesto was windowed when Giuseppina, his wife of 41 years, lost her battle to cancer.

Manuseto enjoyed horse racing and as an owner and gambler, frequented Assiniboia Downs as well as travelling to race tracks out east. He also enjoyed playing cards. A number of years ago he moved to Osoyoos, BC where he would spend his winters, and in the summers enjoy his time back in Italy. This was his ritual until his sudden passing on February 14, 2017.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. Condolences will be offered at 10:00 A.M. Entombment in Chapel of Eternal Memories 1501 Waverley St. Winnipeg, MB.
