Benito T. Vergata
August 22, 1934 – December 1, 2016
Benito, our incredible Nonno passed away on Dec 01, 2016, age 82 years, with his family by his side. Although the last few weeks were a battle, Benito’s final hours were akin to a family gathering, with laughter and love above all. We are grateful for the help we received from the various healthcare providers at the HSC and Grace hospital.
Benito was the first Vergata to come to Winnipeg, from Italy in 1958, opening the doors for his brothers and sisters. He met his devoted wife Leonora and together they started a family. By 1972 he was a proud father of two and a business owner, opening his own tailoring and dry-cleaning shop. Benito would be the first to tell you he is the best gardener in the world and it would be hard to argue after cultivating a thriving 140 acre farm with the help of his son.
Benito leaves behind his wife and children; Martino Vergata and Teresa (Smith) and her husband Ian Smith.
His 5 grandchildren; Bryan, Chris, Tyson, John, Shannon as well as 7 great grandchildren who became his greatest source of pride and happiness.
Our incredible Nonno will be greatly missed but pieces of what he has brought to us will live on forever through his family. To all those who knew him and loved him, raise a glass and have a drink, “Salute Cento Anni!”
