Obituary for Concetta Collerone

Concetta Collerone
December 18, 1929 – December 1, 2018

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our sister, Concetta Collerone on December 1, 2018.

She leaves to mourn her sisters Maria Lao and Licia LoVetri, and her brother Francesco Catanese. She also leaves many nieces and nephews including Joe & Darlene Collerone, Dina Laforges, Lucy & Marvin McMillan, Salvatore & Ibi Lao, Tony & Silvana Catanese, Joe & Karen LoVetri, and Antonio LoVetri, together with many others who reside in Italy.

Concetta was predeceased by her husband, Giuseppe in 2011 and her sister Gina Giordano in 1985.

Concetta was born in Calascibetta, Enna in 1929 to Nunzio and Assunta Catanese. As was the case for many young girls growing up in southern Italy, her parents raised her stressing strong traditional values and skills.

She met Giuseppe and they were married in October 1954. The young couple initially pursued their family’s agricultural interests in Sicily, but times were tough and economic opportunities few, so Concetta and Giuseppe decided to pursue a more prosperous life in Canada. They arrived in Winnipeg in September 1960 and quickly went about to establish a new life.

Concetta was a hardworking and independent woman. She worked as a seamstress in Winnipeg’s garment industry but quickly progressed to supervisory roles.

While Concetta remained childless, she always enjoyed family gatherings and the company of her many nieces and nephews. Concetta also enjoyed gardening and reading. She was Giuseppe’s constant and faithful
Companion and the two were rarely apart.

The family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa for their care and compassion of Concetta over the past two years.

The family will receive condolences at 10:00 am followed by the Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at 11:00 am at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave., Rev. Father Sam Argenziano presiding.

Entombment will follow at the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave., following the mass and a brief reception.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation 300 Booth Dr m001, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7.
