Obituary for Borden Semkiw

BORDEN SEMKIW

With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Borden Semkiw on November 5, 2018, at the age of 86 years, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 63 years, Helen; daughter Denise (Wales); grandson Devon (Ontario); son Gary Semkiw and Jennifer (Winnipeg) and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his father William and his mother Anna; brothers, Paul (Hamilton), Ray (Edmonton), Walter (Calgary), Boris (Winnipeg); sisters, Sylvia, Alice, Mary Anne, Margaret and Elizabeth.

Borden was born in Winnipeg April 12, 1932 and attended King Edward, Isaac Newton High School. He was employed with AEI Telecommunications for 33 years. Starting out as a technician he worked his way up to Engineering Manager. Upon AEI closing down he then went to Manitoba Telephone System for nine years until retirement. He installed much of the cellular equipment throughout Manitoba. His work took him to small towns in Manitoba, both East and West coasts and as far as England and Japan. He was always interested in learning more.

In his earlier days he enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, bowling, curling, travelling with family and spending time at Clearwater Bay Lake of the Woods.

He loved and took great pride in his daughter Denise and son Gary and all their accomplishments. He especially enjoyed fun times with grandson Devon. He was our Mr. Fixit and was an avid reader.

Through the years, he spent many good times playing cards with friends, at progressive dinners, going out to brunch and family gatherings.

Special thanks and with gratitude to nurses, doctors and staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Palliative Care, Riverview Health Centre, paramedics and emergency 'Angels' who brought him back to us several times. He battled COPD for five years.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Borden may be made to Manitoba Lung Association, 301-1 Wesley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or Riverview Health Centre.

As per Borden’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mosaic Funeral Services, 1839 Inkster Blvd. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 a.m.

Grant eternal rest oh Lord until we meet again.
