Pearl Hodnett
Peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, December 6th, 2017, our Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt passed away at the age of 82. Pearl will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathleen (Denis), sons Craig (Leanne), Mark and grandchildren Tasha, Ana and Carter, whom she loved with all her heart.
Mom was an avid sports fan. She was a very soft spoken person, that is until she would either be watching or listening to The Bombers, The Jets or The Blue Jays. At times she would have one game on the tv and listening to another on the radio, with her rocking back and forth and fingers crossed. Needless to say, she was very passionate about her teams and the entire household would be cheering alongside her. She also loved playing bingo and played it she did - with 30 cards in front of her. It was always entertaining watching her.
Pearl suffered from Dementia for many years, where her mind would no longer allow her to recognize herself or her family, however she always seemed to have a smile on her face even during the hardest times.
Our family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to Fred Douglas Lodge, especially the Staff on Spruce Unit where Pearl spent her last remaining years. A very special Thank You goes out to some amazing people whom we got to know over the years that treated Mom like their own family – Margaret, Allison, Riz, Steven and Pat – We are forever grateful for the kindness and compassion you had always shown.
“If we were granted one wish today and knew it would come true. We would ask for a little time to speak alone with you. To hear your voice like it used to be, so soft, so quiet, so clear, the voice which has been silenced for these last few years. We know our wish will not come true and that’s alright too, for we treasure all the memories of the mother we once knew. We know when we see you again and hold your hand in ours, we will see a peace upon your face and know you will remember us.”
Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pearl’s name can be made to Fred Douglas Lodge, 1275 Burrows Avenue, Winnipeg, Mb R2X 0B8
Mom, we take comfort in knowing that you are holding hands with Dad and that you now remember who you are. You will be missed always and in our Hearts forever! We Love You!
