Caterina was born in Amato, Catanzaro, Italy. Her husband Serafino came to Canada to find a better life for his young family. Caterina and Rosina soon followed to begin their new life in Winnipeg. Family was everything to Caterina as she not only raised her own children, but took great care of her many grandchildren. Caterina was unfailingly selfless, she truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; chatting with her friends and family both in Italy and Winnipeg, hosting Sunday dinners often and always making sure no one left her home hungry (mangia) . Caterina enjoyed gardening, cooking, knitting/crocheting and listening to Italian music.

Though Caterina battled advancing Alzheimer’s, her eyes would still light up each and every time she saw her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.

She will be lovingly remembered for her warm smile and her innate ability to bring laughter to all those around her. Caterina will be missed by many; she effortlessly revealed what it meant to live life with courage, resilience, kindness and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

The family would like to thank the numerous healthcare, respite and homecare workers who kept Caterina comfortable in her son’s home; their caring and compassion will never be forgotten by the family.
