Obituary for Mervin Edwin Brown

MERVIN (MERV) EDWIN BROWN,
September 2, 1938 - October 3, 2017

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Merv Brown, our beloved husband, father, and grandfather at the Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday, October 3, 2017, with family by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Sidney Brown and will be deeply missed by his wife of 57 years, June; his children, Jeff Brown (Eva) Steve Brown (Melanie) Cindylou Garcea (Danny); grand-children, Daniela, Isabella, Julia, Madison and Matteo.
Merv was born in Winnipeg. He married the love of his life, June Schwartz on August 6, 1960 and moved to Brampton Ontario for a short time. When they returned to Winnipeg, Merv went on to work for Bowes Co. Ltd, excelling in sales early on and eventually working his way up to General Manager. Merv was an avid sports enthusiast. In the early years, he could be spotted most evenings either in the stands at his kids’ sport games, or coaching junior Hockey for the West Kildonan North Stars as well as community baseball. To be surrounded by family meant everything to Merv and he loved nothing more than to sit back in his favorite chair and watch his grand children play and carry on. The family pets also brought him great joy in life; Duke, Amy, Brandy, Fortune, Hannah, Ariel and Lambert. In the later years, Merv enjoyed regularly meeting up with his coffee gang in the mornings. Most evenings, he could be found throwing his hands up in the air at whatever professional sports game happened to be on the TV. Merv was a man with great honour and integrity. And an inspiration to us all. He will truly be missed.
The family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at HSC GH7 for their care and kindness and for making his last days as comfortable as possible.
Donations in memory of Merv can be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 301 - 1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3C 4C6.
In keeping with Merv’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of Merv’s life will be held at a later date. My dear husband, Dad & Poppa, we love you. May you Rest in Peace.
